The recent launch of iPhone 3G on July 11, 2008, left some wanting more. Specifically, after the dust settled, many remembered that they had hoped for Apple CEO Steve Jobs to pull a 32GB 3G iPhone out of his sleeve, or his pocket.
It is technically possible to bump up the storage to 32GB as evident by the new 32GB flash drive iPod touch. Pricing for NAND flash memory has been on the decline for some time. As a result, some could argue that the likelihood of a 32GB iPhone 3G is eminent. The question now is, "When?"
There are reports that Apple has secured a majority portion of the productions from Samsung. Meanwhile some rumors have surfaced whispering November might be the magic moment.
Prediction: Will Apple announce a 32GB iPhone 3G model by the end of january 2009? No 32GB iPhone 3G needs to be available for purchase for favorable judgement.

Yawn
It will take more than a bump in storage to be called an exciting upgrade
Apple needs to undo all the hard work expended to cripple the iPhone. I just got one and I have a few weeks to consider returning it, but right now I am inclined to turn it back in. Apple have spent more time making life difficult for developers and customers than trying to make the product work up to current standards of the industry.
Steve Jobs is more and more a problem for the company. He is so very badly out of touch that the products coming out do not represent either what they could or should be. It is disappointing.
Just wondering in your opinion what would be the perfect device? I have played around with a few of the 3G's and they seem pretty up to date on what is posable, that is, without any major limitations that the current technology offers i.e. Wi-Fi, GPS, Phone/Data Networks... Maybe I'm not as knowledgeable or up to date about the direction of new technology. The iPhone seems to offer nearly everything I need in a device small as it is. Not to say that I don't think the retail market has had more influence on the speed and quality, in a negative way, on modern technology. The military and experimental sector seems to be many many years ahead of the retail market. Why? Maybe if the iPhone could guide a missile it would have more options.
So Jobs is out of touch ... guess Apple's recent quarter was just smoke and mirrors ... 7 million iPhones and 2 million Macs sold in the last three months ... yep, out of touch with what customer want.
Yep, Maccas sell plenty of burgers too - quality ......
I notice that you people have now begun placing FAR more emphasis on the term 'prediction'.
Good.
At the very least, you are no longer misleading Joe Q. Public as to the fact that YOU are predicting these facts. Which of course has absolutely nothing to do with the product manufacturers intentions.
And no, it is NOT necessarily technically possible to upgrade iPhone storage at the present time to 32GB. The Touch has no need for the same electronics housed within the Phone that make it what it is, ie. a mobile telephonic device. This is why Apple have been able to include 32GB on the audio device, as there is space available internally for more storage.
This is a fact; do your research.
Old Hat,
Samsung's 32GB SM flash chipset (4*8GB surface mount plus register) is the same size as the 16GB ones (4*4GB Surface mount plus register). That's a fact. Do YOUR research.
This website is (as has been pointed out to you before, I remember) all about the reader/author's predicitons on technology news (hence the big Betting bit?) so of course the author isn't puporting to be "hte mouth of Apple". It's a bit of fun, you ass.
Haven't you downloaded the Missile Guidance app from iTunes Store yet? Only $2,000,000 and 17GB space required...oh wait, we've come full circle here....
(oh and Old Hat, there isn't really a missile guidance app; before you get upset at the fictional nature of all this...)
it will be from 1 single aluminum block - manufacturing marvels
Camera, battery and storage will be updated
+ MORE RESTRICTIONS
They need to up the storage to at least 32 but with the new 64 memory blocks now available, they ought to have that as an option also. They also need the ability to use the camera to take video without having to jailbreak it. And the ability to send a photo to another phone without having to use email as most other phones can do. AND....allow Verizon to service it so they can gain a much bigger base.
If Apple would make swappable memory for the Iphone, that would cut down on the disappointed customers and wasted products! Think about it, Apple keeps everything as a secret on what the next Iphone will be like! But who suffers the consumer! They treat us like crack heads! Hey everybody this is the latest and greatest, drop another $300 to get it! Shit we could have spent that money on new memory and kept the phone we dropped $300 on! Come on now! Some third world country will have a land fill of old Iphones, because Apple is not thinking green!
I think Apple is thinking green, dollar bills that is. Like all the other players in the industry. That's the name of the game, don't get upset.
Most people will jump on the new IPhone which will have more storage and maybe new features (a better camera and a flash would be a plus). We should expect also new colours and an aluminium finish.
I will hold on to my Motorola until the iPhone provides a decent camera and at least 32gb, that's if another competitor doesn't offer something even better by then. And I guess this is the whole point of keeping the hype alive and the competition guessing.
id so far a good start on upgrades would be a 32+gb iphone with a more pixels for the camera even faster network response but if not the first 2 would be nice =]
Take it for what it is worth ... an anonymous tipster (who works with 3rd party accessories supplier) had knowledge of Apple's short term roadmap has indicated that 32GB is a certainty in January.

1. a better camera (prada has a 5 mp camera with schneider kreauznach certified lens)
2. minimum 32 gb maybe with available flash memory slot for upgrade
3. ability to send files and pics via bluetooth
4. the ability to DOWNLOAD from the internet other than from itunes. (how can you offer semi-full
browsing capabilities but deny the option to download pics vids porn etc. from the internet?)
5. ability to record video/audio
6. ability to act as a external hard drive (moving data to and fro ur pc or mac seamlessly)
7. longer battery life
they are just like sony. they have the technology but just inching it out to maximize profits. and why not? theyre a business after all. but to those who say it's impossible to add more memory or whatnot. they prolly already had the "new" iphones made. a lot of the products they release are stripped down versions of their real selves. anyway, these are just a few of the things apple can improve on with their iphone.
oh.
and the ability to guide missiles
new hat, you are assuming they are using the same number of chips of larger capacity (4 * 8 rather than 4 * 4) to increase the ipod touch from 16GB to 32GB. This is not necessarily true, they may be using more chips to get to 32GB (e.g. 8 * 4GB) and using the extra space available in the ipod that is not needed for broadband chip, antenna, etc. Oftentimes it is cheaper to use more, smaller chips, particularly if you buy a kazillion of them at a time like apple does. Still i do wish steve jobs would give us some more info i don't know why he loves to keep people hanging...
Yawn? go sleep then
@David, interesting swing this has taken downward today, despite the available news/tips out there right now.
@Eric, I wonder as well but I cashed out my bet on this one to add to my end of year bets.
The only way I would ever get an iPhone, is if it was available on ALL UK NETWORKS, which looks like it could be the case soon now France have ruled that its illegal to have the phone on only one network there and has forced apple to make it available to all (something the EU comissioner will be looking closely at I think) - also the additional features are needed:
1. At least a 5-Megapixel camera.
2. Feature to record videos, and sound clips.
3. Enhanced Bluetooth (send pictures, audio, sounds etc)
4. Removable Battery (An EU law which could stop the phone being sold in Europe)
5. Support for MMS (Picture Messaging)
I agree with all the above, also would like to use my iPhone connected to my laptop to browse the net where ever I am.
Make it the best and watch the rest try to catch up.
i fone is for gays and for btiches fuck ur mothers all of u
Phone, Your, You, Prick ^^^^
i think apple shud concentrate on features of a 3g phone like actual video calls, and possible intergrated with ichat for conference calls on the iphon ( that would be cool) and also the little things normal phone do, like bluetooth file transfer, i think if apple added these, then they would have the best phone of its kind, and am sure would have a whole lot more people buying them
Actually it's for people who like nice things, techies or people with money, that of which you are probably neither. Don't be a hater and just shut it.
How crass... I thought this site would attract less douche bags than Mac Rumors. Must be a staunch windows user. Return thy attention to thou video games and feminine creams, hater.
